INTERCOOLERS/FANS Interc11

It seems that Sony has solved most of the overheating issues with the new PS3 Slim, but for those of you who are still using the old "FAT BOY" overheating causes most of the frustration we suffer. If you have not had any experience with these intercoolers let me save you the time and money. They are a waste! In fact, by adding hardware and additional power usage these intercoolers actually contribute to more frequent overheating. Just make sure your PS3 console is in an open-air environment with plenty of circulation. If it is enclosed in an entertainment center you drastically increase your probability of a meltdown. If necessary, simply set up an everyday desk fan or room fan near your console to help increase air flow. It is also very important to dust around your PS3 often as to keep dust particles from accumulating in your system which will cause overheating.

Yeah the problem is that the fans on the intercooler get clogged with dust and lint very easily. They are essentially tiny vaccum cleaners that pull contaminents into your system much fasted than normal. Unless you're cleaning it every couple days it's actually restricting airflow to your PS3 fans. Once the intercooler is compromised it blocks virtually all circulation into your system. The other thing is that it's not meant to run for more than a couple hours at a time. It's laughable, but he intercooler can actually overheat during periods of extended play. Once that happens you're screwed. I had the best results with my old FATBOY when it was standing upright on the very top of the entertainment center with a small desktop fan blowing air toward the back of the console. That increases available airflow without blocking the intake. Dust is a huge contributing factor to overheating as well. Make sure you're cycling your PS3s fan every few days or so. Switch the main power off on the back of the console and hold your finger on the eject button, wait ten seconds, then keep your finger on eject as you flip the power back on. You will hear the fans kick in and begin to cycle in reverse. It sounds like your PS3 is about to launch itself through the roof. This will blow out a lot of the dust that is trapped inside the console. Again make sure that your system is not enclosed in a small space or it will just suck the dust right back in. It's important to perform this on a regular basis. If the dust is allowed to settle and accumulate inside the console it is much harder to remove. Hope this helps.

yes I did, I went to the extreme. I opened up the fatboy after a weeks use of it (as I open it up every other month to clean out the dust accumulated in there.) and still it's no use proven factor is the 30 dollars wasted on this product could've went into better use
